If I had my way I would have a slice of land and set up an outdoor rifle/pistol range. I have ZERO business skills so that isn't a reality for me, but it sure would be FUN! If you had a military ID I'd let you help police the range in lieu of membership fees! I'd have the reloaders on station doing their thing. I'd even have a coffee shop so I could have all my vices covered and co-located. Do you have a dream business? Are you already living your dream? You may already have the next great idea!

So this may sound weird but there are a lot of contract nursing agencies that don't take care of their employees. I would love to start an agency that is focused both on providing quality patient care and giving back to the nurses who make it happen. Second, I would give the proceeds back by having a traveling mobility health care RV just for veterans, and the homeless.

In April of this year I finally completed the paperwork and set up my dream business. I started a firearms/ammunition/accessories business. The FFL was the most laborious and expensive part.

My wife and I are running it off of my kitchen table right now, but some day it will be a store front that I can pass on to my grandkids. I am working on getting my GSA numbers so I might be able to get a nice governmment contract. I would like to add a range as well. Living in Wyoming, I might be able to make that happen in a few years.
Never give up on your dreams, SFC Merino.

What kind of $$$ are we talking about for an FFL?

Thank you, Sgt. Britt. I took my time and did about a years worth of research into the business and marketing aspect.

SFC Merino, it was $200 for the ATF fee and its $90 every three years after that for renewal. I paid $100 for my LLC and it's a $50 annual renewal. I paid $65 for my sales tax license. That was a one time fee. I have a type 1 FFL and want to get my Class 3 which will cost me $500 up front and another renewal fee every three years.
Although I don't need it here in Wyoming I want to get my CCP and that's another $65. But from what I understand all those fees are deductible as business expenses. Haven't filed taxes as a business yet but someone might be able to share their experiences.
The real cost starts when you want to import or export firearms. LOTS of paperwork and the cost starts about $2500 and goes up.

Did you have to take any classes? I may have to speak with you off line about this to learn more about it.

I didn't take any classes for the FFL itself and it's not a hard process. The FFL itself is almost like a military clearance background check. A long application to fill out, the waiting, then the interview, then the waiting, then the FFL finally comes in the mail. I would be happy to share my experience. Easily done. I have found that the legalities and admin needs of the business are more demanding than the actual FFL. The classes I have taken were more business related than firearms related. Trying to find that perfect place where supply meets demand and maximizing the profit made is probably my greatest challenge. That and the fact that being a mom and pop store I get run over by big stores that have bulk purchasing power and built in distribution. They save a good deal of money on shipping and hazmat fees when shipping ammo.
VERY enlightening. Answered a lot of unknowns for me when it comes to gun control talking points.
Sorry, didn't mean to bend your ear so much. But it's my passion and a long term investment for me. Someday I hope to be at least as big as our regional retailer Scheels. When I get to that point I will be hiring vets and having in store programs for vets and their families.

I would open a Dating service for special parties. We would connect you with our highest caliber possible, if you know what I mean. I would call it the Death Blossom of Love. Although I don't anticipate to have many repeat customers.

I would love to own a bowling alley. I might not ever leave.

Or... a sports talk radio station. That could be good fun too.

I miss bowling. I'm dangerous with anything over 5 pounds in my hands. I was never that great, but it was a sport I could do. I think I broke 200 once.

I want to be able to tell the world of all the great stories running through my head in one medium or another. Whether it's through literature and novels, pictures and animation, and/or interactive gaming media.

I'm not sure I understand your question entirely, but...

I am currently getting my thoughts together for National Novel Writers Month (NaNoWriMo), and am currently enrolled at the local Community College for a degree in Graphical Communication.

My dream job would be to own an "oldies" (50's/60's) radio station and DJ one of the shows.

Collecting music has been one of my hobbies since I was about 10 years old and I have thousands of 45's, 33 1/3's, 8-track tapes, reel to reel tapes, cassette tapes, CD's and, now, thousands of songs on my iPods, iPad and iPhone.

Still have not given up that dream and may still do it one day.

COL Jean (John) F. B. Awesome! I try explaining to my 19 yr old about 8 tracks and tapes. I got her a stereo and took her to "antique" stores and got her records and she is now angry that they have gne the way of the dodo.

SSG Maurice P. Hooah ... Me too. My all-time favorite period in music is 1960-1965, although the late 50's and the rest of the 60's are awesome, as well. I don't believe there is a record made during that period that I don't have (at least if it placed anywhere in the Top 100). My wife states that I am a "fount of useless knowledge" when it comes to music, especially music of the 50s and 60s).

Travel has always been one of my dreams. While on Active Duty with SF I was deployed to many countries and I learned to enjoy finding out about other cultures, customs and languages, so in my retirement I KNEW I wanted to travel more for those experiences which only come from being somewhere you've never been, seeing exciting new vistas, tasting spectacular new dishes, and getting the nuance of other cultures by putting myself into exotic lands. Little did I know that within 3 years of my retirement date I would take advantage of a tremendous opportunity to own my very own travel website! Now, my wife, Alicia and I are "living the dream" of being able to travel for a fraction of retail and earning a good living at the same time! We have found a way to include our family and best friends in the business so they are able to take advantage of the same Perks that we are accustomed to. In a few days we'll be going to Las Vegas for 5 days, in October we'll be on an 11 Day cruise in the Mediterrainian Sea, and in Novemeber we'll be in the Caribbean for a week. Its a great life to get PAID to travel!

Mine's more of 'if I had done things different' - I'd want to work as a physical therapist for wounded warriors. Being a physical therapist is something I've considered on and off since freshman year in high school.
