I'm a first year doctoral student at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, an HBCU.

There are many HBCUs out there with great programs. It just depends on what you want to study.

What made that college stand out to you? What pros and cons do you see to the college as a HBCU?

I’ve always heard good things about Morehouse and Howard (also Spellman for what it’s worth)

The only experience is my United Way donation to the United Negro College Fund.

Do you have any experience with historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and the best ones for particular programs?

Greetings.
If you could kindly provide some background about your interests, such as desired future profession or academic major which interests you or specialty certification program, then pleased to refer you to some likely-suitable HBCUs in NC, CA and TX.

Glad to advise and assist as I can. My direct email address is < [login to see] >.

Please advise. Today is Saturday, 17 November 2018.

Regards, Stephen H. Franke

Hello. My interests shouldn't matter much but I'm big on IT. I'd prefer you share any resources you're willing to share here for others' viewing. By the way, this is a public thread.

Greetings again.
Thank you for that clarification.
Ref your interest in IT: these two universities offer solid IT / ITC programs up through and including doctoral levels, and they are very big and receptive to veterans:

[1] Viterbi USC School of Engineering (esp. its Information Sciences Institute -- aka ISI -- and Institute for Creative Technology -- aka ICT). Both Institutes are located off-campus, in the Marina del Rey area), U of Southern California, Los Angeles. (Have been adjunct faculty or SME there to assist on some projects and developed insights and appreciation about their program offerings and their internal climates.) < http://www.usc.edu >

[2] The University of Texas at Austin < http://www.utexas.edu >

Both universities have very helpful counselors / facilitators for entering veterans.

Hope this helps. Regards.

LTC Stephen Franke - Thanks, but the thread is prioritizing being historically black.

And you can of course be as specific and technical as possible...the more exact and concrete you are, the more I can judge what to suggest...also...were you thinking at all of trying to go back in, in any fashion? I'm not suggesting that, certainly, I merely asked, just to try to gauge your motivations, so far as I might be able to try to suggest stuff, you've doubtless seen the various stuff I've suggested to others, I just obviously didn't know your preferences and/or inclinations, of course....

Also, if you were thinking of going grad level, what thesis and/or dissertation topic(s) might you care to do, or range thereof? It'd help me to try to help you, to know that, so far as you might be able to elaborate at all, obviously....

I only ask this purely out of curiosity, please understand...as you know, I have in interest in career/educ stuff like that...were you thinking of going back to go undergrad and/or grad level? I'd assume it'd be for a STEM field, given your interests...if you'd ever care to chat about it, in case you're seeking to do that, I could, certainly, possibly suggest some quite good schools, if you could elaborate further about what you'd want for a major, or range of majors, obviously...trust me, I've been around that block longer than I like to think about sometimes, so believe me, I've seen more than my share of it, I assure you...I'm supposing you're asking out of interest in trying for one, to see if you could do undergrad, possibly grad, at one, obviously, that's just a supposition given what you'd sent, of course...if you'd be interested in chatting, I'd certainly be willing to suggest various possibilities for you, things you might possibly not have considered thus far, I'd be most eager to help, no rush, whenever you'd like, obviously....

For future reference, its easier to understand multiple responses to the same question if you add them as comments under the same response. I'll reply to this and your other 2 here as they're all seemingly expanding on your initial question. I'm simply looking for info on such colleges now for future possibilities and options to give younger blacks later. Consider it part of research. At some point, I may take bounce info against the GI Bill calculator.

Oh...OK, I follow...I'll try to add them as you suggest...sometimes, I never quite know what's the right way to add further thoughts...I'd figured it might've also been with an object like that in mind as well, of course, that had also occurred to me, I appreciate your explaining, though, certainly....

Capt Daniel Goodman - Anytime. Every platform has their specific things you have to do differently - like others don't receive notifications in comments if they're not the initial responder. For example, I didn't receive a notification to your comment above.
