Do you have to go to MEPS when transferring from active duty to the National Guard?

I was told I'd have to go to MEPS, what would I be doing there? Signing a new contract?

#1 Did you ask, who ever told you, as to why you need to go to MEPS? If you did, what answer were you given?
This is all speculation and I can't be 100% on this but:
*It maybe because you have to swear in again (since you're going Active),
*You have to re-sign your paperwork/contract
*There's an opportunity for you somewhere else.
You don't always get 100% of the information until you're at MEPS. I wanted to be an MC (Mass Communication Specialist) or a HM (Corpsman) but I wasn't told that I couldn't be one, just that it was overmanned. When I got to MEPS, they told me that there's no way to get in so I had to choose another rate.
Don't fret. Just go with it and if there's an issue, you'll be in the best spot to get something figured out.

Correct, and I appreciate the quick response. When I asked the recruiter he said "eh just some paperwork" and I know recruiters are a little shifty but this guy is really cool and has taken a lot of time and effort that he won't get point for to see me be where I want to be. I was mainly wondering if anyone had first hand experience of what they want, need or know exactly.
