I too have use cpap but VA retested me and says I have Central Sleep apnea & Cpap doesn’t work that good. They will be issuing me a bypap they say will be more effective.

Not sure yet. Last sleep study a week ago used one. Outcome determined it was better for central sleep apnea than cpap I use. Still awaiting VA to issue it. Should get one in the next week or two. If it works better will let you know.

I go to bed around 2130 every day and fall asleep in less than two minutes. I then wake up about two hours later and can't go back to sleep until around 0300.

Yes, I may sleep a hour or two and then I am up. Tossing and turning until I drive myself crazy.

I fall asleep about 0130 and wake at 0230 to 0330 every night. Go back to sleep and wake at 0730. Not very good sleep.

Will the VA help me buy an adjustable bed or do I have to keep sleeping in the recliner? If I sleep in the bed I can barely move the next morning with extreme stiffness and pain in my neck. As it is some nights I don't sleep at all. In the daytime, I sleep from 1 to 4 hours if I'm lucky.

Please let them know that you can’t afford adjustable bed or mattress with the power and if your if they have the resources they may be able to help. You can ask them to send you to someone where they monitor your sleep.

I was once going through that until I was sitting with my father and in tears and then I remembered I had muscle relaxers and took 2 and I finally relaxed enough to get some sleep.

I've tried muscle relaxer too. I'm still on one now, but at a low dose. A higher dose makes me dizzy, so that out of the question.

Does that mean the VA will buy me an adjustable bed so I can stop sleeping in my recliner?

My primary does know about my sleeping problem. Nothing he's suggested yet has worked. I'm sensitive to a lot of meds so it's a trial and error until we find something. Even Melatonin 3 mg is a bit too much for me.

You can always go to a acupuncture and see if it helps with the pain and stiffness.

Chronic insomnia. Sometimes up two to three days without sleep. Can be completely and physically worn out, but cannot turn my mind off to go to sleep.

Who is in charge of your mind? And you cannot cause it to focus on a peaceful place and activity - floating down a river on an inner tube?

CSM Charles Hayden Passed 7/29/2025 - I suffer from chronic insomnia too and turning off your mind is not as easy as you think.

SSgt Dawn Williams I learned to focus on traveling a relaxing, pleasant route, step by step and restarting the route if my mind wandered.

Nothing was said about maintaining focus ‘being easy’.

Really a simple question in my mind, ‘Who is in Charge of your Mind’?

I have had insomnia for many years. Do you honestly think I haven't tried almost everything that was recommended? I've even tried self hypnosis. My father had the same problem and my mother sleeps like a baby most nights. I was in the medical field for many years and I've spoke to many health professionals regarding my problem sleeping.

It is not easy to shut the world down for the evening. I find that allowing my body to consciously relax I find my tension gently lifting away. It is important to focus on the positive, happy moments of life and find peace from the negative aspects that can haunt our lives.
