Let's have some great picture memorabilia!

I'm really going out on a limb here with this one. There were some really great photos of RP Members in their very first uniform picture. Thanks for sharing everyone who participated - that is still going by the way!

Picture of my Dad (PFC Don Burroughs, Korean War Veteran)

Now let's get some pictures of the last days in uniform posted!

19 June 1977 at the American Embassy in Brussels, Belgium w/ U.S. Ambassador Anne Cox Chambers. I received a "European Out" meaning I did not have to return to a Marine Base in CONUS for discharge. I went to the Embassy on active duty, returned to the Marine House on inactive reserve, changed into blue jeans and hopped a train then ferry to Ireland.

Great timing / small world, Col. Burroughs. I recall Gen. Haig very well. He came into NATO often where the Marines stood a post at the entrance to the US Mission. NATO was my favorite post in Brussels. Also, on NATO, I TDY'd for a week or so to Oslo in May of 1976 for a NATO Ministerial when Dr. Henry Kissinger was SecState - interesting duty.

Sgt Ken Crouse Here are two pictures of the enlisted team by one of the UH-1 Helicopters that flew Haig into tight spots throughout NATO. You can see that one was taken in 1977 with old starch uniforms and purple covers and then the last pisture was taken with the new uniforms and no purple covers - regulations changed from 77 to 80 on the uniforms and the wearing of different colored service caps on the flight line!

Special paint pattern for Haig's UH-1? I seem to recall more of a solid paint pattern of that era. Side arms for those with unbloused utility jackets?

COL Mikel J. Burroughs I arrived at SHAPE just about the time you were leaving, about 15 June 80, then was further detached to HQ AFCENT in the Netherlands, which I absolutely loved!

This isn't my last pic in uniform, but it is my last official act. I'm getting my Associates Degree from the Wing Commander, obviously after I retired. LOL I'll have to locate my retirement pics.

Sure do...the day I married my wife :) Our wedding was in an "Edwardian" theme, and my bride to be, an expert seamstress, created a replica Spanish-American War era (M1898 pattern) tunic for me.

I never even got my picture in the yearbook from basic, so I never bought one. Looking back I wished I had regardless. I had KP on picture day and they left me out.

This picture is of my Dad, CMSgt Raymond Johnson and me (at the time SP4) on the day I left Turkey, around May, 1966. Taken at TUSLOG Det. 3-2, Samsun, Turkey. My dad was in the Air Force Security Service and I was Army Security Agency at TUSLOG Det. 4, Sinop, Turkey. We saw each other once a month or so via the mail plane from Samsun to Sinop. He still had about 6 months left in Turkey when this was taken. We were not allowed to leave the country in uniform.

I believe it was the next day or the one following when I received a telephone call from a lieutenant in my former unit. "Sergeant Bruorton, you need to come in and deliver an EO (Eyes Only) to the CG."
"I won't be coming in; you'll have to get someone else."
"Why?"
"I'm retired now. Have fun." (But I was polite.)
