I compete in both, but I can usually only really focus on one at a time when prepping for a meet. Throw in Strongman and Highland Games and it keeps me pretty active and busy, but never bored.

That's pretty cool. How did you get into Strongman and Power lifting? Do you have any influences within those fields? I tried a lot of Scot Mendelson's stuff a few years ago.

While lifting big weights to get massive is fun, it's not functional for combat fitness. It makes more sense to incorporate powerlifting and general strength/power endurance training because raw strength translates to functional strength.

I think you either didn't understand what I mean or you're confused by what I asked. I said "incorporate" as in use those techniques from time to time. Furthermore, power training in general does contribute to functional strength. To summarize and clarify, I talking about adding in specific exercises and set X rep and rep tempo X rest schemes. Power lifting is more than simply lifting big weights.
