This was during my time in Washington DC. The barracks were limited and I've been living and getting comfortable in my barrack room for nearly a year. Then one day my Company Gunny showed up and pointed at 3 guys, me included and said you have 2 weeks to find a place to live out in town otherwise you will be homeless. All three of us ended up roommating until I was transferred to Okinawa. But boy, the first month was harsh. I added up my finance and ensure everything would be paid for except food. I nearly starved to death for an entire week.
