If the Soldier meets the qualifications, which I believe are 8000 accident /incident - free miles or 12 consecutive months, the CO, after confirmation of meeting the requirements, can create a memo. This is similar to memos that authorize Good conduct medal and ARCAMS. Usually the POC to review the record is the Senior motor Sergeant, though I bet the forman (WO) can also sign off.

I am pulling from memory cells that are 10 years old. Maybe some 88 Mikes can jump in here?

WO1 John C. Thanks for the clarification. I suspected the 05 requirement, but was unsure

1SG (Join to see) - The O5 requirement must be a change. Mine was signed ~7 or 8 years ago by my 03 commander. I had heard they were looking to make this change back when mine was signed, because units weren't doing their due diligence to ensure Soldiers met the requirements. My buddy (National Guard) got his when the admin NCO came into a room where he was working and asked, "Who wants a driver's badge?" and he raised his hand.

It a badge you earn (and can wear on your dress uniform) for safely driving a military vehicle for a certain number of miles over a period of time.

I thought the AF was bad, that badge takes the cake. We could only get a safety certificate for not damaging a military vehicle. That came from the motor pool.

Well, I can't really say much, before I retired they were awarding medals for the young troops finding their way to work. Some thought they should receive an award for being placed on extra duty out side of their MOS/AFSC. I had to remind them " their duty and all other duties assigned them".
