I ship out September 25, 2018 and I hear they're possibly going to switch over starting October or December. I don't really feel like paying for ABUs, then also OCPs a month or two later. I know they give you time to switch, but still. I'd rather just get them at basic. Just wondering if people already in the service have better information or insight into the matter.

You should get issued all your gear at basic training. I doubt the Air Force is any different than the Army in that regard. They probably are already issuing the OCP ABUs to basic training by then. I'm not sure but if they aren't - then yeah you'll have to buy a new uniform. But you should get an initial issue.

Entering the service you shouldn't be having to pay for anything. It should all be issued to you when you get to your training site.

SSG (Join to see) - SFC Kelly Fuerhoff I remember paying for my basic issue in the Marines. That was 1995 so that may have changed by now. They handed us a check at the end of 12 weeks of boot camp and mine was $600. Of course I was 18 and thought I'd never spend that much money. Ha!

SSG Jon Hill - I was happy to get out of them and into jungle boots. Not the place, just the boot.
