Hello, all! I'm just trying to get a feel of what more I need to do to be competitive. All of my previous Warrants have told me I should put my packet together, which I've already started doing. For the record, I meet the minimum requirements for a Warrant Selection. Here's a little about my career:

•TIS:6.5 years
•TIG: 1.5 year
•1 Deployment( OEF)
•Battle Field Promotion to SPC
•4 Stellar NCOERS
•MOS: 13R Radar
•66 Credits of College
•289 PT Score
•DHG in AIT
•SSD 3 completed
•ALC Grad

Your Warrant Officers know you better than anyone here on RP. If they see the potential in you and are backing your decision then good luck to you. Strong endorsements from your senior WOs along with your achievements will pave the way for you. Best wishes.

If you meet these prerequisites, you're competitive:

"How competitive", on the other hand, depends on your evaluations, letter of recommendation, et cetera compared to the other applicants.

One of our jobs as Warrant Officers is to recruit our replacements. If your Warrants are encouraging you to submit a packet, my advice is to submit the packet.

The only thing is finding an 131A in your COC.

You didn't mention GT score but either way you gotta start by ensuring you meet the minimum requirements. Once you know you have met that seek out the warrants in your battalion/brigade and plead your case.

Do you think I'm competitive for 131A Warrant Selection?

Where you're at, the only thing you need to do to be competitive is go for it. Talk to the 131A's on your chain, make them give you a reason why you shouldn't get in. Put that packet in front of them.

Your NCOER's will be critical to your selection plus your LOR's. Basically it looks like you qualify, but I never gave a potential candidate an LOR until reading the evaluations and doing at least a phone interview. Hopefully this helps.

Follow up:
College/Continuing Education:
When I applied, I did not have a college degree. I did show/documented that I was continuing my education. I was enrolled in college, taking classes.

I was able to do this on base where I was stationed. You may be able to do that, or attend the local college.

I documented my credit hours, and on-going classes at the time I submitted my packet. One of the things the Board looks at is continuing education.

Recommendation(s): If you are not already in a college class, enroll. Get it documented on your Packet that you are continuing your education.

Even if there are no current classes due to vacation or, or you missed the open window, etc., enroll for the next class. Show the Board you are making the effort.

SSG Turner,
ask yourself this; Am I tactically qualified? Am I technically qualified?

From your brief history shown;
I would say Yes for tactically qualified: Successful OEF deployment, Battlefield Promotion (Congratulations on that!)

For the technical, it appears so, a Yes there also: Outstanding NCOERs.

You already stated important things; Other Warrants have already given you the nod, and you stated you already meet the requirements for selection. Getting the nod won't get you anywhere in the process, but I note that having this vote-of-confidence from them tells me you have what it takes, and they recognize it.

The training you will receive in school will add to your expertise.

I believe you should put your packet in.
----------------------------
Other thoughts: besides being tactically and technically qualified, you will be looked upon to do many other things by your Soldiers and Command.
I offer just one here: find out about the logistics in your field. Yes, you can fight. Yes, you can fix it.

Where are the parts?
You may have already seen the ups & downs of the repair cycle/process. A few hints I would tell you to do now; track a few repair parts from the beginning of the order process to receipt. Go to your Tech Supply Warrant and have them show you what they look at. Get and read the references on Maintenance Management and Supply. Your Technical Chief can assist you on the Maintenance piece and hopefully on some Supply. The remainder of Supply, go to the Supply Warrant.

Best Wishes,
Matt

As long as your GT and line scores meet the pre-requisites, it seems like you have a good chance. You mentioned 3 stellar NCOERs: as long as this number is the majority, then you are good there also. You will need a strong recommendation letter from a senior WO in your accession MOS. If you are on AD, this is not waiverable.

A 4.5-year e-6? Seems like a lock to me. I'd get on it, quick.
