If you crossed the border at San Diego and absolutely no one would hire you, how far would you travel? Better question: how long would you stay? The bottom line is that they know they will be hired. They're coming here for jobs/money. So I don't feel that millions are willing to sit unemployed in the hope of a job. If you have research links to the contrary, I'd love to read them. Lax border security is one thing. Getting a job is another.

Since we like to now interpret the intentions of the people who wrote the constitution, which I'm against btw, I'd guess that having an enforced border was on their mind. They did fight several engagements in early years with just about everyone else in Norte Americana to sort it out. Guess the US won. I do recall Black Jack (and that wasn't his original nickname either feel free to google it) going into Mexico and chasing around Pancho Villa and others. Same Pershing that went on to be the "equivalent" rank of 6 stars in WW1 and was considered senior to Eisenhower.

It's not a racial thing. Certainly, the US has imported some immigrants that we'd all wished we wouldn't. Certainly some illegals have been bad people. I'm sure that many of them are reasonably decent people who wanted a better life. However, it is not the US issue to feed all of the North, Central, South America as well as anyone else that feels like showing up.

When someone boards a plane and is in the US a month, births a child, it would seem that their visit was to create a US citizen. That's where the term anchor baby came from if I had to guess. I've seen officers do things that would shame the devil. I'd rather be someone willing to strap on gloves, or pick up a gun, and join the damned fight, than to sit in an air conditioned command or toc.

Don't underestimate kids. Plenty of them in third world countries will take a pot shot or set off a suicide vest. Some of them will in this one as well (apparently).

Hopefully this will be the end of it, but I doubt it.
