Considering all the illegal immigrants in this country, do you think they should be able to use welfare or public assistance considering they aren't citizens and that many working Americans are denied welfare or public assistance.

The law states they are illegal aliens. Immigrants have a right to enter the United States.

PO1 J Lewis - They say you must be a citizen, not prove it. Even if they did say it, the general policy seems to override the regulation by not asking for it..... At least in so many states....

PO1 J Lewis - No, the question was, Do you think illegal immigrants should be able to use welfare/public assistance? Not "Can they use"......

All I can say is my friend is the director at a social service office in NYS. I know for a fact that you must provide a birth certificate, or other proof of citizenship. The first thing that happens is your Social Security number is run through the IRS database. This is for two reasons, first it verifies that the number is attached to you and it verifies your income. Then they begin processing your claim. He says that about 70% of the people that apply are working. If you're an illegal alien you'll never get past the SS verify. His job is to disqualify people who aren't eligible. A lot of people put a lower earning amount on the application, then the IRS reports their income. He has denied people for making one dollar too much.

PO1 J Lewis - Your statement is naive at best..... Even if I give you the benefit of the doubt, I'm an investigator and have worked many cases completely contrary to your comments. Enough said.

The greatest part of being a U.S. Citizen is the rights we have. one that I value a lot like freedom of speech. When we speak of illegal immigration I hope we are all focus not only on the southern border but also the all the other 3 (north, west and east). People that look like me are not the only one coming here illegally so let not assume they at the only ones.

Most of us do not. Illegal aliens/immigrants come in all colors of our global population. That being said, the highest percentage do look more like you than me. And many VISA overstays look similar in appearance to me.

I'm OK with it, if it's paid for out of the budget surplus, after the national debt is retired.

SPC Randy Torgerson - I was pointing out that SSG Speck's answer is ambiguous and allows for illegal immigrants to receive welfare/public assistance -- perhaps not what he intended. Perhaps invest in reading comprehension classes instead of eagerly bullying on social media?

When I stated that tax payers and US Citizens only should receive benefits, I guess I was over simplifying the answer to the question. Anyone paying taxes should receive the benefits of what they are contributing to. Most illegals, in my opinion do not pay taxes in the United States unless they are purchasing items from a store which excises those taxes. Those illegals, and some with Green Visas send their earning out of the U.S. In those cases, NO they should not receive benefits.

Why is that relevant? There are few limitations on what can be discussed on RP. Don't like it, don't follow it.

RP is not so much about what can be discussed, but it is about who can be on RP.
