Do your children respect and honor you?

From 1989 through 2001 one of my roles in church was to teach the 2 and 3 year olds about the basics of faith SPC Margaret Higgins. Some of them were from broken homes and violent backgrounds while others were from stable homes. I did my best to let the Lord guide me and His light shine through me to those little ones. Generally i would sit on the floor to be close to them and they would scramble to get as close to me as possible while I told them stories they could understand, looked them in the eye, and hugged them if necessary. Two of my sons went through this program while I was teacher. One was very jealous when I focused my attention on other children.
My sons are now grown and they respect and honor me. I learned long ago that the interaction between parent and children needs to change over time; but, the mutual love does not need to change. When they were young they needed guidance and boundaries to be safe. Now they are young men they need somebody who will listen to them when they need to share personal things without fear of judgement. My communication with my sons became much better when I learned to listen more and speak less.

My son is too young to know anything. But I try to be in his life. It's hard when you are out looking for jobs and going to school. But I give him my time. As he grows I hope to teach him right and wrong, but it requires bonding not Put him by the TV, or computers. I look back at my parents question how they raised me and why, and apply or improve based on my own understanding.
Sometimes a firm hand will be nessecary, but otherwise just spend time with them.
