Does a company/S1 have a certain period of time to remove a flag off of someone's record?

I am flagged under the flag code K which is Body Composition, I pass weight and tape, get counseled by the commander for the removal of the flag, go look on my ERB after a week I was counseled and the flag is still present and active. I know it was on me that I bust tape, same way it was on me to make sure I pass the next time around but with my 24 months coming up and having this flag on my record I know I wont make SPC in time, and with the flag on my record I cant even use ASK on HRC for requisition or progress at all. I looked at AR 600-8-2 and also looked on here but haven't seen an exact answer.

Good afternoon,
I know how you feel, I was in your shoes last year so here is what I suggest.
Don't wait at all, I did not make SPC on time for this same reason, passed and everything but the paperwork never got pushed.
- Make a copy of the counseling statement from the commander
- Your orderly room should have a copy of your DA268 (flag removal) get a copy as well
- You will probably need a pack slip (depends on the unit) so get the forms ready and explain your situation to your PSG and your 1SG when they ask why you need to go to S1.
- Go to S1 and give them the paperwork, they will remove the flag or confirm that it was removed on the spot. They have the ability to do it.
And please, PLEASE above all, maintain your military bearing, you will be asked a lot of questions, understand it is nobody's fault at this point.
It is your career so act now before its late and you lose money and time to go to the board, schools, blc etc...
Good luck

The comments above are correct. As a 42A I can confirm all your S1 needs, is the counseling statement, the 268 flag marked and signed for removal, and the updated PT card for your SRB/eMILPO.

The command owes it to the SM to ensure the flag is lifted as promptly as they initiated it. Once the flag is lifted, it will be backdated to the day you came off the program. Having said that, Flags for ABCP can be lifted, but will remain on your ERB for a probationary period. If you go back on the ABCP during that time, the command is required to initiate a chapter separation.
Talk to your orderly room and S1, its a simple process that gets overlooked too often.

It'll be gone whenever some local pencil pusher gets around to it. You might have to pester somebody but I've seen an entire tank company sit in field for half the weakend until the CSM finally did routine safety inspection.

It is suppose to be done in a timely manner- but as you pointed out it is your responsibility to make sure your records are straight. Why don't you just visit them and asked for its removal.

Flags for weight and tape are different than most. Go check out AR 600-8-2

SGT Joseph Gunderson
SGT (Join to see) - I really enjoy helping SMs now that I'm out, but, just like you just described, I have noticed that they would rather toss out stupid questions - and yes there do exist stupid questions - instead of either seeking counsel and advice from their leadership or looking in the regulations for more than 30 seconds.

SGT Joseph Gunderson - agreed. (And I don’t understand. With the google, it’s not like they run the risk of paper cutting their pinkies).

Thanks SGT and that's the problem because I read that and but I have no clue on why it's still on my record and holding my career back from growth when I already met all the standards I needed, to get it removed from my record. I appreciate it sergeant.

PFC (Join to see) - ok..so, what I would do, is go to your first line (I’m sure he’s up to speed on your situation) and explain that your flag hasn’t been lifted.
Have the regulation in hand (or pulled up on google on google on your phone).
“SGT, this is adversely affecting me. Respectfully, I messed up and was disciplined. Respectfully, I handled my shit, and I met all standards delivered to me. The regulation says that the flag should be removed from the date of compliance, which is now ‘X many’ days overdue. I need to speak with the 1SG today to resolve this issue.”
That simple. Be respectful.

You need to be a pest with your chain about getting it removed. Continue to remind them as much as possible until it is removed.
