Does a DA 2062 expire after a specific amount of time has passed?

Just wanting to clear up some confusion I have been dealing with. I have always been under the impession that a DA 2062 does not expire until end items change or are turned in. I recently encountered a soldier that has informed me that a DA 2062 only lasts for 30 days. Is there any truth to this?

So their is two forms used in the Supply Realm, its the DA2062 and Da3161, Now the difference is DA3161 is for transfer of a piece of equipment or used as an Hand Receipt. The Da3161 is used for 30 days or less, or if used to LT a piece of equipment to anyone, it's the main form that will be kept by all parties to ensure responsibility for equipment. On the other hand, you have the DA2062, this form is mainly used for quick deals that last longer than 30/90 days, lets say Joe Snuffy needs a Laptop, you can add the Laptop w Serial Number to the Da2062, as long as the Person has that Laptop, the Da2062 is a living document that can be kept for up to a year, after that year, the DA2062 is just updated for the following year. If you go to DA PAM 710-2, you can find all the inquiries into these forms and more. Hope this helps out.

DA 2062 is good for 6 months a DA 3161 is only good for 1 month unless this is used as an issuing document. To which the item is moved onto a sub hand receipt, the DA 3161 remains on file until the hand receipt is signed. My suggestion is keep all records with the DA3161 for 7 years attached to the Sub Hand receipt holders sgned document!

710-2-1 pg.73. 5-3 for DA 3161. The DA 2062 can be sed to reissue to an individual the same equipment or when there's a change!

DA 2062 is generally considered to be good for 6 months. If you are issuing out a piece of equipment to someone for longer than that you need a DA Form 3161.<br>

verification and new signature wouldn't bring up epiration dates of the form at hand. PBUSE automatically generates a 3161 when you switch equipment from hand receipt to hand reciept, whether or not it is printed off and maintained as a change document is on your Supply....

1SG (Join to see) - I take it you are in the IT Logistics realm. I'm looking for a form to do much the same thing. My PBO has okayed the use of the DA 3161 to issue laptops and such, but I was hoping to find a better suited form for this. The reason to use the DA 3161 is there is a digital version that allows the electronic signature. Is there a better way?

SGT (Join to see) - A DA 3161 is a property transaction and will permanently move the property to another hand receipt, it's called a lateral transfer. Get further clarification from your supply/S4/PBO as to what their intent is with the 3161. If the property is to stay on your hand receipt but just be loaned on temporary basis a 2062 should suffice.

SFC (Join to see) - There is the problem with your statement, moving from hand receipt to hand receipt i.e. a lateral transfer or an actual supply transaction. When the property remains on your hand receipt but is just loaned out to someone temporarily a 2062 is ideal. This all takes place at the hand receipt holder level, not supply or higher, to allow for temporary transfer of property without the onerous task of doing a complete inventory and resigning you master hand receipt. Could you honestly imagine doing a lateral transfer for everything? Again I fall back on the S6 example, someone needs radios for a range, well lets go to supply, get the radios moved from my hand receipt to yours, oh wait, now you have to sign you hand receipt all over again. Well you are done with the range, lets go back to supply and do it all again in reverse. Doesn't make much sense does it?

I am a retired supply sergeant, a 2062 never expires! I have heard this 6 months thing my whole career and I promise you the only hand receipt that expires is a temporary hand receipt on a 3161. DA Form 3161 can be used many ways but when used as a temporary hand receipt it does and is the only hand receipt that expires. If you want to read the regs yourself pull up AR 735-5 and read the section on Relief From Property Accountability, these are the only ways to clear a hand receipt.

Look in AR 735-5 and DA PAM 731-1. It is good for 6 month, but if an update of a da form 3161 was done as a change document that extends the time to another 6 months from the date the 3161 was signed. Now for temp hand receipts, those are done on DA form 3161.<div><br></div><div>My whole military career was 92Y and I held accountability to the highest standard and have read the regs I posted way to many times, that even today unless things have changed since I retired in 2012 it should still hold true. But give your unit PBO a call and they can help you out the best as the PBO is the god of supply.<br><div><br></div><div><br></div></div>

You're right SSG (Join to see), however it does require that the primary hand receipt holder counsel their sub hand receipt holders and it is quite allowable to have a 6 month limit on your signing in their SOP. The idea is to force you to acknowledge that you are appropriately accounting for your equipment.

What do you think of this!!!!! My property is all on sub hand receipts by MTOE to each section/platoon. My new cherry commander informed me that he no longer wants it that way, he wants it all on the supply hand receipt, Mine. He says its too much work for each platoon to manage their own property. What do you all think?

SSG (Join to see) - I would say no problem, have them all return the property to me and I will comply. Then get appointments set up to turn everything in, visit the PBO to get doc numbers and when the PBO says WTF, let him know what is going on so he can school this young new commander. Bet that commander will change his mind quickly.
