Yes, the only thing active duty gets you in Georgia is you can apply at 18 instead of 21.

According to the State AG when I was stationed there and an Army reserve JAG who is a full-time county prosecutor from a few weeks ago when we talked about this, Military members (to include reserves, guard, and state guard) are exempt from state gun laws and the requirement to have a carry permit under GA law.

Does active duty military need a conceal carry permit in the state of Georgia?

If you read the following you will read that military are exempt from the requirements to have a conceal permit while you are in GA and are active duty military. I have known a few that did this. They also carried a copy of the State Statute in case they were questioned about it. I would recommend not trying it. Cops don't even know about and they will charge you and let the courts deal with it. Meanwhile you will have to worry about when you have a arrest on your record. I would just get a permit. I have a Louisiana lifetime permit. It is really the best way to go.

I'm not lawyer but I do have a conceal carry permit. I went to the county office and filled out the paperwork. They did a background check. etc. Do you live on base?? If so you may need to check with JAG.

No, according to Georgia.
Yes, according to the military, or at least Fort Benning.
Last I checked.

SFC James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" - From what I understand that you can conceal carry with a CAC card in GA. There is a list of exemptions of those that don't need them in GA and active military got on the list. It is not limited to official duty.

When I was in Georgia, US Military and Georgia Military (NG and SDF) could carry without a permit, but Fort Benning would not allow Fort Benning Soldiers to do so.

Also, when I was there there was a myth that you just needed a CAC, but that is not what the law said. Having your CAC would simplify things, but it wasn't necessary to carry legally.

Gun laws are state to state. Being in the military is irrelevant. Whatever the state you're residing in's gun laws are, that's what you're legally obligated to follow.
