Has anyone ever worked on or with a Cultural Support Team? I’m trying to look at doing something different for a little while but I can’t seem to find much information on it.

SGT Ashley Conlon FETs are used mainly during deployment to the middle-east, or countries, where gender comes into play. They are different because the women on a FET usually only speak to the women in the country, and vice-versa. There is a lot to learn as well.
While I am not acquainted w/ such a unit, here is what I view as important which comes out of my 4 years as an AF ER medic and my clinical experience as a psychologist and professor:
It is so very important to be culturally competent when serving overseas in a combat zone. Combat vets going back to Korea stress this importance. We tend to underestimate the collective nature of Asian peoples as we did in Vietnam. They were outnumbered as far as military might. They fought w/ absolute tenacity despite their physical size compared to us.
They were so very determined to defend their homeland from us as invaders. This despite the fact that more civilians were killed than combatants on both sides combined.
And it is so very critical to be gender competent as males and females are not the same in so many important ways.
