I’m currently at Ft Sill Reclassing and graduate this month. I currently do not have orders. My husband is also here we are enrolled in the macp program and he is waiting on me to get orders. I need to submit a leave packet soon. I currently only have 8 days of leave and our household goods are at our house at Ft Gordon and our kids are Wisconsin. It sounds like I will be able to leave here the day of graduation but I’m getting anxious on how we will be able to sign our stuff over to transportation, clean the house, etc etc along with finding a place to live at Ft Bliss, and get the kids as well. If we go straight from here to Bliss we can check in with housing and go on PTDY to get our house and daycare and what not squared away, then take leave following the PTDY to get the kids in Wisconsin and make it to Gordon to square away our house there to go back to Bliss. But that just sounds like a shit show. Not to mention his vehicle is still at Ft Gordon and there is not enough leave or time to drive it all the way to Bliss. Does anyone have any insight or suggestions on this process?

There is housing for SGT and SSG available on post, personally, I do not recommend it, because there are not nice and are small. If you decide to live off post, I would recommmend an area called North Hills on North East El Paso. There is an are in the NE that people do not recommend, but this is not one of them. Driving from North Hills to post is between 15-25 minutes depending on traffic. Schools in this area are ok, specially if you have kids in elementary school. Also, traffic is much better than on other areas such as the Far East of the city. If you like nature and skying there is a place called Ruidoso, about 2 hours from El Paso, where you can scape the hot days of the summmer and enjoy real winters with snow and all. If need more information do not hesitate to ask.

If you need any information about Fort Bliss/ El Paso area, let me know. I was stationed at Bliss for many years.

I was in the same situation coming back on active duty. I showed up at my duty station, signed in and took leave shortly after. The Commander can authorize you to go in the hole for leave so you have enough time.
