I’m currently at Ft Sill Reclassing and graduate this month. I currently do not have orders. My husband is also here we are enrolled in the macp program and he is waiting on me to get orders. I need to submit a leave packet soon. I currently only have 8 days of leave and our household goods are at our house at Ft Gordon and our kids are Wisconsin. It sounds like I will be able to leave here the day of graduation but I’m getting anxious on how we will be able to sign our stuff over to transportation, clean the house, etc etc along with finding a place to live at Ft Bliss, and get the kids as well. If we go straight from here to Bliss we can check in with housing and go on PTDY to get our house and daycare and what not squared away, then take leave following the PTDY to get the kids in Wisconsin and make it to Gordon to square away our house there to go back to Bliss. But that just sounds like a shit show. Not to mention his vehicle is still at Ft Gordon and there is not enough leave or time to drive it all the way to Bliss. Does anyone have any insight or suggestions on this process?

- You will not be charged travel time.
- 10 days permissive TDY can be split from losing station to gaining station.
- You need to ask for time to see transportation NOW as doing something at the last minute will not always work. Ask them about towing a vehicle. Why can't you two drive two cars to Bliss?
- Is your travel coordinated through DTS?

I finally got orders set up transportation. I got a few different people to be at the house while the movers are there the stuff they cannot move I will just have left at the house. When I report I got 10 days of ptdy approved from here so I will go home get the rest of the stuff and my husbands truck. Travel squared me away with the regulation for dependent travel. It is in the JTR handbook chapter 5. States that they are to provide transportation for dependents to duty station and If they are too young to travel alone you are authorized a chaperone who’s travel is funded by the unit. Dual military and single military it can be the service member and they are to authorize tdy while you pick them up. Thank y’all for your advice and help.

SGT (Join to see) - I am glad things worked out for you and your family and transportation and finance squared you away. This must feel like a huge weight off your shoulders. Make sure you see your DTS admin to detach you from the unit before you leave. You have to be detached from the old unit to be accepted to the new unit. Safe travels! By the way are you doing a DITY move?

I’m doing a DITY move from sill to bliss and I’m also going to set one up from gordon to bliss for the remainder of our goods but otherwise we are just doing a standard move. It’s just easier with all the moving parts we have at this current point in time.

Did you discuss the DITY move with Transportation to coordinate the allowances, expenses, and regulations?

There is housing for SGT and SSG available on post, personally, I do not recommend it, because there are not nice and are small. If you decide to live off post, I would recommmend an area called North Hills on North East El Paso. There is an are in the NE that people do not recommend, but this is not one of them. Driving from North Hills to post is between 15-25 minutes depending on traffic. Schools in this area are ok, specially if you have kids in elementary school. Also, traffic is much better than on other areas such as the Far East of the city. If you like nature and skying there is a place called Ruidoso, about 2 hours from El Paso, where you can scape the hot days of the summmer and enjoy real winters with snow and all. If need more information do not hesitate to ask.

If you need any information about Fort Bliss/ El Paso area, let me know. I was stationed at Bliss for many years.
