And purely as a thought, a good many guys I was with at USAF OTS had been enlisted intersvc transfers, one guy was Navy wearing enlisted sub dolphins on his USAF blues...so, if you'd wanna consider other svcs, also look at the state maritime colleges, as well as the Citadel, aside from VMI, you might well find those of interest, honest, I very nearly applied to SUNY Maritime College, I've had friends I worked with and known who went there, I was offered a 1-yr temp faculty spot there I chickened out on, I kick myself quite frequently about never having applied or taken the chance to teach there, they're really quite good schools, and, even if you went NROTC there, you might still opt for USAF if you wanted it, if you did well enough, the deputy base commander where I was assigned had been Annapolis, and gone USAF afterward....

SGT Amilcar Spezia -
I transitioned in '72 and it was a fairly simple process even though I had a couple of years left on my enlistment. Visit your retention NCO and learn what you can there. This gives him a heads up that you are considering a transition and he will get credit for that. He (or she as applicable) will be more cooperative with you in your next step which should be a visit to your PAC-NCOIC (NOT a CLERK - even if they are a friend) go to the top or bad stuff can happen.
Follow to the 'T' whatever direction you get and things will go smoothly (or as smooth as things can go in the Army). Make certain you have a spot in the ROTC program before you begin this process and be sure they will lock you in.
You will be discharged from the Army and very quickly re-enlisted in the ROTC and it is done.
If you are planning to return to AD following your commission, be sure the AF will pick you up.
If the military is in a draw down there may not be a slot for you causing you to enter the AFR until things are more favorable.
That is how I got relegated to the USAR. When I graduated in '74 there was very few spaces available in my branch and it took another four years for an opportunity to arise and by then I was entrenched in a career and a small family to support; End of story.

Hope this helps and wish you the best in your pursuits.

Not that this answers what you were asking, just to explain, I did 3 yrs Army ROTC, I got a 3-yr scholarship in my 2nd yr, I did my 2nd and 3rd yrs of undergrad that way, I wasn't able to finish, I went USAF OTS after that when it was at Lackland, before it got moved to Maxwell...so, that being said, were you thinking about what you'd asked for yourself? If so, for what AFSC, if you did it? Elaborate, if you can, on associates, any bachelors stuff thus far, what grad level you'd want as well, there's been stuff on here about ROTCs being allowed for grad level as well...go into grades, GPAs, actual STEM and non-STEM course titles you've done...also, did you do CCAF at all? Did you get a mil transcript from either DANTES or Amer Council on Educ (ACE) at all, to include all your tech training, though, if you'd gone CCAF, you likely used it there, I can suggest some online programs that are real, one I used, that a friend also used, he went Navy OCS after using it...do you have flight interests? I saw the glasses...would you want to try to nav/WSO at all instead? Have you looked at other svcs at all? If so, which ones? Would you possibly want to try for Army WOCS for rotary wing, possibly as nav/WSO, I was never sure if Army uses them, it's just a thought...go into hobbies, interests, reading tastes, sports incl martial arts esp if any...the more specific you are, the more I can possibly suggest for you...my next younger brother was USMMA Kings Point, I commissioned him when he went USNR, my best friend in USAF was VMI, through their AFROTC, my ROTC unit trained a good deal at West Point, the unit itself I was with no longer exists...I'd be most interested to hear more, I'll try to send you other stuff that might interest you, as it'd occur to me, no rush, whenever you'd wanna get back, OK
