Your best course of action is to talk with a recruiter. Without delving too deeply, this could/would be seen as a pre-existing mental condition. You may very well need a waiver. The only one to truly answer this question is to speak with a Recruiter. Everyone else, who is not/were a Recruiter, would just be providing speculation. Good luck.

I have a recruiter that has been helping me but for some reason he has not responded to my calls or text for an update for about 3 weeks now. In the beginning he said that it wasn't going to be an issue getting me in and then 3 months later I have no idea whats going or how my chances are looking.

I served with someone who was a "cutter" in their younger years. They didn't have any issues with enlistment. They've been in for about 10 years and been on 3 or 4 deployments.

Recruiter here. Your odds are very slim, next to none. Nothing and no one is going to stop you from applying, but don't get your hopes high.

I appreciate the feed back, are my odds still very slim even though it's waiverable?

Does anyone have any information on the chances of getting into the Army with a history of self-mutilation?

It is waiverable at the moment. Case by case basis of course

Why do you want to join the Army? How can you assure anyone you have resolved your issues?

Because the military has always been a part of my life and I feel as though this is something I need to do for my country. Also self mutilation was something I did once not because of having issues or not being able to handle life like many people may think. It was something I did when I was around 8 years old and mainly because I hung around older kids who were not good influences. Therefore, I have no mental instability or anything like that. I guess it's more of a question of how the chances look for someone who is in a complicated situation as me.
