I'm in split ops with the National Guard. If you don't know, thats where you go to BCT between your junior and senior year of high school, then AIT after. I'm at the after part, I leave in a week for FT. Sill and I was wondering if you had general tips or ideas. And if I should make sure to bring anything with me.

In winter, there's nothing between you and the north pole but a few barbed wire fences! I trained there in the winter of 1963 and it was cold and windy, so make sure you dress for it! As far as Lawton is concerned, it was a nasty place back then and the only friend the town folks respected was our money. I don't know what Lawton is like today but I hope it has been cleaned up!

Being stuff to write with and on. Being that you have a year in the Army don't go in there thinking that your better then any of the other guys that just came across the tracks. You might know a small amount more. But for the most part your experience in the Army is equal. But if you do know something don't hesitate to help a battle understand.

Drink a lot of water. It gets HOT down there. I did BCT there and sill was my 2nd duty station. Have fun there.

I wish I had seen this sooner. I went to Sill. Was gonna say to stay off the grass ( although there wasn't much there- most of it was dead from the heat). Drink water, and keep motivated! I had a blast in BCT

It depends on what your MOS is, have some civilian clothes if you are a 14 series, bring personal hygiene of course. Have at least 13 subject notebook for notes in class. Try and get out and enjoy weekend, and so what your NCOs tell you .

Bug spray. I did AIT there. Some Allow civilian clothing on the weekends depending on your MOS, mine was 4 months (14G) so we were allowed civis on weekends and going off post.
