The last "official" information I got through my chain was a teleconference and PowerPoint maybe three years ago, when they weren't even sure if 3D1X3 (RF) was going to make the transition. We've heard rumors about Security+ becoming a requirement outside of the conversion, so I assume that it will become a requirement when we're lumped in with the rest of the Cyber world 3D1s and 3D0s.

Recourses I can give are only from word of mouth from the 3D career functional manager that came and spoke to me at our base (Buckley Space force base) as the transition is happening. I as well as the rest of the 3Ds being kicked off the base. The transition is happening in the next 6 months. Won’t be changing our jobs any just making them more important to the overall USAF mission hence the new 1XXXXX Codes
3D1 will still require Sec + but a job like mine X7 won’t. It’s all personel dependent. Won’t be Sec + for all. However I can say I think we are moving to all 1XXXXX Needing a TS. I never needed one before and the rest of my job (cable) it will be now mandatory to have it.

I was expecting that we'd have to do Sec+ in the near-future anyway, with a lot of our systems becoming IP-based, we've been told that we need those certs to "administer" the servers, switches, etc because of IA regulations. But, it will be odd to be the same AFSC (different shred) as Cyber Transport, Client Systems, etc. At this point, we've been using it as a selling point in our recruiting, that people will be able to convert to a more IT-centric position without having to go back through tech school.

Sure would be nice to have some information flow though, it's not like we're comm guys or anything.
