I have purchased them through the unit before, but was never in a position to have to order them. Any ideas?

these two websites have military unit blankets/throws, and can make them for your unit.

Here's that Armed Forces YMCA link: http://www.asymca.org/programs/operation-kid-comfort/

And im waiting for an answer from our BN Career Counselor on where they get their stuff, but I found a shop that will custom make throw blankets and charge a design fee:http://www.southernchrm.com/Business/public_service.htm

Armed Forces YMCA. I never even realized the stuff they'll do for out troops. We just had a guy give a briefing during Command and Staff and they aren't exactly unit blankets, but they'll make deployment quilts for kids. They will also sponsor a BBQ for deploying units. Im working on coordinating 2 BBQs before I leave for Korea for 2 companies that are deploying soon.

The blankets...I think I know what you're talking about. I'll have to ask my Career Counselor because I think I've actually seen one for my BDE. I'll repost here if I can get that info. It might not be local. I know they get a lot of stuff from the Austin area. More to follow....

Does anyone know a good place in the greater Fort Hood area to get unit blankets made?

If you go to any embroidery shops around, they can help. However, I would check with Apache Arts across the street from Finance first. If you have doubts on the price at these places, I would try to google. There are businesses all over the place that can help.

Just left Hood last year, Apache Arts and Crafts on Battalion, should be able to accommodate your needs

I don't know where you can go, but I bet you can ask the sew shops around the east gate...those ladies might know a place.
