Hello all. I am an active duty enlisted member of the US Navy. I have been applying for OCS through the Navy, but I want to explore my options with the Army and the Marines Corp officer programs. The biggest question I have is in regards to age requirements and time in service. I joined the military later in life. I am in my 6th year of active service and I am 35 years old. My understanding is that in the Army you must be 34 or younger at the time you accept your commission, and I believe it is 28 for the Marine Corps. I can easily do 20 years before I turn 55 (the congressional requirement), but I have been unable to get a clear answer on age waivers for either branch. I meet all of the other requirements, but time in service and age seem to be against me. Can anyone provide me with info on this matter?

Regardless of what anyone says, there is an exception to every policy - with the exception of federal law. I was a prior service (Army) and applied for multiple waivers (Age, TIS and TIG) which were approved by HRC, the MILPER stated waivers were not authorized and would not be approved. If your packet is strong enough and you meet the requirements, you should apply.

Thank you for the encouragement. I am attempting to track down the instruction on waivers to use as a starting point. Officer recruiters do not seem willing to help with the leg work and would rather say they are unavailable.

You'd be considered prior service so you subtract your years of service in the navy from your actual age. I'd have read the part in our reg bout you going to ocs through the army but you'd be within age requirements.

Do you know where I can find the reg or instruction that states that? I am trying to arm myself before approaching an officer recruiter. The Army to Navy thing isn't an issue.

In the Navy my max age was 35 in order to retire with 20 years at 55.
