Does anyone know if I can get a special duty assignment out of MEPS?

I will be going to MEPS next week to get back into Active Duty. I ETS'd last June from USAR as an 88N. Does anyone know if I have the option of requesting a duty assignment such as AIT Schoolhouse Instructor, Recruiter, or Drill Sergeant at MEPS?

No, not possible, If you were a prior recruiter and hold MOS 79R as your primary MOS, that would be the only way. Otherwise, all of those assignments including detailed recruiter require you to submit an application with commander's endorsements to go through the selection process. You have to be first in the Army assigned to a unit to do that.

That's what I figured. My recruiter didn't know. He said everything with prior service is up to MEPS and all they do is review our packet and forward it to MEPS. Appreciate the response.

No, it s not possible.
Especially as a SSG, your options will be incredibly limited- and needs of the Army at that, you'll be lucky if you even get a choice of MOS.
