I would say to seek out the German Army Liasion Staff, every post I have been stationed at stateside has had German Military Representatives. These badges are annual requirements for the German Soldiers so with coordination they will usually allow US Soldiers to test along side their Soldiers or run events for the our Soldiers.

We just completed one at Fort Bliss late last month...I think they do them two or three times a year here. I know they also do them at Fort Leavenworth and Fort Bragg, and I have heard Benning does them as well. If you find a location with a German contingent then just contact them and inquire...you may be able to get into the next one. At Bliss units were allocated a certain number of slots based on size and then were extras available for add ons.

Does anyone know of locations where Schützenschnur and/or GAFB testing is held annually?

Got mine in Afghanistan 2004. Odd place, but we were close friend with the German Liaison team there. They conducted a range, and then we later conducted a range for them to award them US Army qualification badges.

All over the place. Never saw either when I was stationed st Fort Hood for six years, but when I moved home I found that MA Guard hosts GAFB every or every other year. All you need is a German liaison and some coordinating.

MA Guard is a little vague...what unit, specifically? I'm in MA now, would love to have my unit link up, but haven't heard of anyone doing it.

JFHQ puts it on. Each BN gets a few slots and puts it down to the companies to fill via their OML. Usually takes place in September.

See if your installation has a German Liaison Officer (GLO). We did the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge at Fort Knox in 1998 through the GLO.

I thought it was done only if you were in Germany? I had an opportunity to participate in it when I was deployed and hooked up with Germans to do some missions.

Nope only need a certified member of the German Army to test. Location doesn't matter.
