Sorry for such the late response, but we've had a lot going on. You do not need to be Jump Master qualified prior to becoming a black hat. All they require is prior experience outside of Airborne School itself.

SSG McKee,

I do not know the specific requirements at this time. My 1SG and a fellow SSG that I am stationed with we're both black hats. I can reach out to them and ID the process for you. However, in the meantime I am sure you can reach out to your Schools NCO in S3 and maybe he can find you something. You can also go on the U.S. Army Airborne School page and they may layout some guidelines for you there.

If you can reach out that would be great. I just didn't know how if it was an extensive process or if it mattered if your were jump master qualified from Bragg or not

SSG McKee,

As I said I would get you the answer. Forgive me that it took so long. However, the answer is no. You do not need to be Jump Master qualified prior to becoming a black hat. However, what the Airborne school requires is some experience outside of Airborne School. I hope this satisfies and I again my apologies for the late response.

Thank you SSG David Avila-Medina, I appreciate the response. I heard that was the case about the experience but I would think that they would want more from applicants. I just wanted to have the chance to train future paratroopers through my knowledge as a jumpmaster/paratrooper. I have jumped four parachute systems out of many different air frames. I will call the Airborne School at Benning and ask about putting in a packet.
