I’m taking ordinary leave in conjunction with secondary caregiver leave(paternal). Command policy states I have to start and end ordinary at place of residence or post except when used in conjunction with TDY. Army directive says I can take parental leave in conjunction with ordinary leave. What do I do ?

Having them right after each other is "in conjunction with". When i took any of my paternity leave (now secondary caregiver) i took the then 10 days on the first DA 31 and then used a second DA 31 for any additional leave days. Obviously the first one will be marked as secondary caregiver leave and not be charged, and the second one would state regular leave and would be charged. Disclaimer: I always stayed local so it maybe the different locations ever came up in question.

It's really just the commanders call and knowing the situation. If you are trying to say go back home for a full 30 days to let family see the new baby i would push it up the chain to have a sit down with the commander and "plead your case".

The command policy doesn’t mention maternal or paternal leave at all
