Honor flight 660 trailer
All active duty stand down(but don't walk away, this will effect you later) Veterans does it ever bother you to hear that? "Thank you for your service" I apologize but it mmmm...bugs me something awful, telling me " your done go sit down and grow feeble " needs changed to something that endures like we do something like "YO JOE!" or another saying meaning get outta my way theres work to do and I ain't done yet! Forgive if I wasted your time, just wondering.

This article is about two veterans from Afghanistan who don't like and their reason. It is a very good read. Yes it is a review about a book but still shows the insight of their psyche.

i READ THE STORY while i agree I disagree for if the thank you comes from your heart and you mean it in giving respect and honor there is nothing wrong with it also is a ice breaker a meet and greet I love doing it and shall not stop its part of being a brother and friend and goes with never leave anyone behind !!!!!!!

I understand where your disagreement comes from but they do not want to hear it and that is their opinion. I was just sharing it since it was associated with the topic. I will say I hear it more around certain holidays and then the rest of the year and when I do hear it unless I deem it sincere will not answer them because it is my choice.

I stop every vet, fire fighter, and police officer and tell them thank you for your service and to be safe out there. I've yet had one to tell me they don't like that and they always thank me and shake my hand. Just before they put the handcuffs on. :-)

Very good read. I've met a lot of vets who feel this way, I understand why they do. I don't mind when I hear it, but it doesn't mean much from most people. I see different perspectives on it. I didn't fight in active combat in a war zone, and I feel like those who did had a very different experience from what I did. I can't judge how they accept it. I am glad to hear it said to Vietnam Vets. I've seen 'nam vets break down and cry from it when it's sincere, because it's so long overdue. But I see the new vets point too, back and forth, back and forth, Irag Afghanistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, life is falling apart, friends are dying, wife left you... "hey thanx man, too bad you guys lost" from someone with no skin in it. I can see why some guys have to just walk away. It's insincere.

Not if it's sincere in tone & appropriate to the situation. I dont feel the need to be thanked, I did it for my reasons.

For me, it makes me uncomfortable. While I appreciate the sentiment, I was doing my job, and serving with some great folks. I don't see it as the OP posted, but it's often difficult to say thank you. IDK just hard for me to verbalize.

It bothers me because it usually seems like a canned response. When you cant think of anything else to say, that works. I think it's fine to thank me for my service, but try to find out a bit about what I did, what I went through. I think is would work better, if everyone was working to make sure we got what is coming to us.

It does but it doesn't. It does because I was never deployed, I simply joined during this war. It doesn't because I understand their gratitude towards the Armed Forces as a whole. Regardless of weather you actually deployed or not.

I think it's lip service....you can see how people dish it out. Personally I just ignore it. If I bring it up, it's because I'm in the middle of telling a story while I was stationed out of country.
If Americans meant it, they would listen to us when it comes to Global Politics. But no, when it comes to anything going on in the world, we are first to be ignored, because shit, we only lived through it...Even Elections, no one asks what Military Personnel think, especially not Veterans.
And have you ever heard a Liberal say anything positive about the military? Of course not. This new movie American Sniper is a perfect example....As soon as Americans make a hero out of a Veteran, Liberals jump all over his character (after he is dead of course)...but some guy says he's gay and is a Football player "Oh my god, he is SO BRAVE. He's a Hero"....
........It's just a big cosmic joke.

Cpl Masi basic views are objectively correct using his comparison. You LTC Yood, however, prove Cpl Masi's points very clearly. First, you are a liberal, that views every situation from one side. Second, identify any positive tactics the nation utilized by "Lead From Behind", as your beloved President's strategy, or as I call it "Chicken". Third, the state of our military is pre WWII, and not very far from pre Civil War status. Fourth, your support toward the military is worthless, unless you can show me 5 Democrats, in the entire government, that supports a strong military. (otherwise, as in the Old Testament, Sodom & Gomorrah should be destroyed-eh Richard). Fifth, how about sending a battalion of fully trained soldiers, strictly of gay & lesbians, to fight ISIS, I'm sure that will settle the debate in everyone's mind if you liberals have it right!

No, it does not bother me. It makes the person saying it feel good. I just tell them it is not necessary, as I had a great career, and got to play with weapons and explosives, go 4 wheeling in the desert, and travel to lots of interesting places. And then I thank them for paying for my vacations. It's all good.

Yes and no.
I always reply with either, "You're welcome" or "it was my pleasure."
