I was in P3T and was given my record APFT to exit the program. My training room is trying to tell me that a record APFT does not count unless it is given in our Battalion.

Short and sweet. No. Any NCO can administer an APFT

MSG (Anonymous) - The craw of it is: If this P3T program is literally designed to help Soldiers pass their APFT, and is ran by military personnel....where their sole job is to administer the APFT, then I fail to see where the disconnect is. If this were the argument used across the board, then no APFT leading to any PME school would be valid, and no APFT in PME would be valid.

I wonder if command is worried that the apft was administered fairly. Many people graduate basic when their DS added a couple push ups or shaved some time off their run.

My APFT from BLC was way better than the record APFT I took before BLC. I asked my training room to add it and they put it on as a record. I would ask your command what the SOP is, and give the training room a POC for the APFT you took outside of your BN.

Does it matter what NCO gives you an APFT for record (not an NCO in your Battalion) if you have the DA 705 filled out correctly?

Why would you go outside your own Battalion of Company to take an APFT without it being attached to an NCOES or other course that requires an APFT as part of the curriculum?
Bottom line is Yes it matters and here's Why:

Every regulation, field manual and DA Pam associated with the APFT precludes you as a Soldier from just getting SGT snuffy to administer you an APFT.

- AR 350-1 ----(1) Commanders may administer the APFT as often as they wish; however, they must specify beforehand when the APFT is for record. RA and AGR Soldiers will take a record APFT twice each calendar year, all other USAR and ARNG Soldiers will take a record APFT annually. A minimum of 4 months will separate record tests for RA and AGR. The 4month rule does not apply to Soldiers that must make-up a record test or re-testing for an APFT failure. . Soldiers requiring make-up testing will be scheduled in accordance with the unit Standard Operating Procedures. Soldiers requiring re-testing for an APFT failure will be scheduled as prescribed in paragraph F–5m(6) of this regulation.

The administration of the record APFT is a COMMANDERS responsibility.

-AR 350-1 and FM 7-22 both state that the DA 705 APFT score card are to be maintained as part of the individual training records at the company or separate command levels. You shouldn't have it until you are testing, PCS'ing or attending a school. Since you can not administer a record test to yourself, any card you produce other than that from the training file would be in question.

- App A-4, Individual Soldiers are not authorized to administer the APFT to themselves.
You can't just decide to give yourself a record APFT, it has to be directed by the Commander.

-FM 7-22-- App A-9, A minimum of (4) personnel are required to administer an APFT, a time keeper, an NCOIC, an OIC and an observer. in constrained circumstances the NCOIC and OIC can be the same Soldier.
SO a single NCO (regardless of where they come from) can not administer the APFT because they can not be the NCOIC, time keeper and observer at the same time.

Back in my day, cause apparently I'm an old fart, we took PT tests in every new unit we arrived in. And the NCOs often gave PT tests to make sure we were ready for the real deal.
So I guess I don't really know how to answer your question, but if I may I'll respond to your question with another question....
Is there a reason you don't want to just take another PT test and get it out of the way?

I would think it's perfectly valid to give someone a APFT coming into your unit. It allows you to assess their fitness level. OTOH, by regulation, you can't call it a Record APFT unless it has been 4 months since the Soldiers last one.

CPT Lawrence Cable - I suppose I just don't see the issue with giving PT tests.
Give one monthly. When the soldier is ready for their best PT test, give them the record APFT.
If they can't pass the PT test then they need additional PT and a regular PT test would show this.
I don't see it as a negative thing. I only see a positive silver lining here.
