I know that bachelor's degree doesn't matter but I'm not sure if masters do matter?

No they do not. Every board I have sat on only shows what level of education the person has. I have never even had a discussion about where they went to school.

If I’m not mistaken don’t officers need a four year degree. I would think that makes a Bachelors degree very important. You can’t get a Masters without one especially if you want to be competitive in the long run.

Yes but the bachelors degree is a bachelors degree. As long as it’s from an accredited program. By law you need a BA/BS by federal law. What he is saying is it doesn’t matter what it is as long as you have one to commission.

No, the promotion board will not even see the name of your masters degree or the name of the school in your records.

It’s on the ORB, even the board version.

LTC Jason Mackay - I didn't realize that. On the enlisted board file that part is blacked out

SFC (Join to see) I think it’s because you have to have a degree by law to be a commissioned officer.

Does it matter what school you went to for your masters degree for Army officer promotions?

As long as the school is accredited it's good to go.

I've know more than a few LTC's without a Master's Degree, but many more with it.

No. Having one as a Field Grade becomes an unofficial discriminator among peers. There is not a requirement to have one. If you are sent to one on a competitive basis (like sister service ILE), that makes you stand out. If you claw and scrape on your own, it looks good as you can manage time and make things happen.

The Master's Degree will only really help you if you are a full colonel. Your studies in Cgsoc and War College will give you a master's degree. I made it to Lieutenant Colonel without a master's degree.

SPC Daniel Weinberger it could help in the selection process to be below the Zone having an early promotion. I was promoted in the zone.

Sir, it also comes into play when competing for advanced PME courses like DSC, RCNSC and JCWS, and a discriminator in CSL boards for BN and BDE command

MAJ Daren Walker that makes sense why I didn't get selected for the reserve component National Security course. The first time I applied I was rejected and the second time I applied was because I was close to my mandatory removal date. To me, that is Bravo Sierra but I made it to my rank.

MAJ Daren Walker Thanks! It is too bad they use this as a litmus test.
