I am currently a medical student training on active duty at USUHS with almost ten years of service in the Army. After reading through some internet information, I still have a lingering question that I hope you can help me with: Does my previous enlisted service count towards officer promotion?
I understand that my time as a student does not count, but does my ten years as enlisted count towards officer promotion? Are there any other factors for promoting other than TIS and TIG?
Thank you for your time.

Officers that have enlisted background gets paid more. The promotions are standard on evaluations training etc.
Sir,
It's been awhile since I've looked, but there is a special pay category up through Captain where it does both in Pay and Longevity. A huge advantage no one speaks of is in your ribbon wear, when the enlisted folks who will work with you see NCOA ribbons and probably service ribbons and other decorations, it will bring some real cred to the game. Here is the special pay category: "Commissioned Officers with more than 4 years Active Service as an Enlisted or Warrant Officer Pay Grade < [login to see] [login to see] [login to see] 4363840 O‐3E 5,527.80$ 5,793.00$ 6,083.40$ 6,271.20$ 6,580.20$ 6,840.90$ 6,990.90$ 7,194.60$ 7,194.60$ 7,194.60$ 7,194.60$ 7,194.60$ 7,194.60$ 7,194.60$ 7,194.60$ 7,194.60$ 7,194.60$ 7,194.60$ 7,194.60 $ O‐2E4,854.90$ 4,955.10$ 5,112.60$ 5,379.00$ 5,584.80$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10$ 5,738.10 $ O‐1E3,910.20$ 4,175.40$ 4,329.90$ 4,487.70$ 4,642.8.
It doesn't read well but it is through "O-3E". Hope this helps,

TIS for pay and retirement. You should be payed O1E. Other than that what the officer below said about officer boards for promoting.
