I was 39 when commissioned. I had six years service prior to commissioning. If the age standards are the same you should be good to go with a waiver. Good luck.

Age waiver should be a normal part of your application with regard to your years of enlisted active duty. I also remember reading, many years ago, if one commissioned on active duty with no break in service between enlisted service and commissioning, one could retire at 20-years total active duty without meeting the mandated 10-years commissioned service retirement requirement. Just food for thought.

I commissioned at 40-years old, with age waiver for my enlisted active duty time.

September the new MILPER should come out in regards to OCS. However according to recent years requirements, you can apply for an age waiver. Talk with your PL, Company commander and let them know your intention. It will be vital to have their support as well as your battalion commander.

Check the current MILPER message that explains the Officer Candidate process. Each fiscal year, the Army sets aside requirements, as well as what waivers the are willing to accept for that fiscal year. That is truly the only way you will know. Each year the requirement for Army officers changes.

I was a 39 y/o SSG and was told to apply for a direct commission because I didn't have time to make it through OCS before turning 40. But that was 16 years ago...

at the time I was Air Defense Artillery and the ARNG was desperately short of officers. I actually served as acting HHC Commander as an E6 for a couple of months while waiting for my FEDREC.
