Does the fact that Linux Mint's site was compromised bother, or surprise, anyone?

A group of hackers rerouted the site to malicious OS image files. A lot of PII is said to also be compromised.

Kind of hard to pick yes or no on this one. It's definitely bothersome but not surprising. We are now in an age where any connected device is going to be a target for these types of people. Security is something we strive for but will never fully achieve as long as services need to be accessible. The only secure device is a disconnected and powered off device.

Agreed. I'm curious. Have you ever heard of a box being hacked while off but it's BIOS "Wake on LAN" was enabled?

Initially I was surprised, but later I was not. Today, with the high profile hacks going on, it was only a matter of time before they were hit. It just goes to show that complacency is never good in regards to security.
