I remember the last days of the Khakis. I've never seen so many Troopers at Grannis Field (Fayettenam) heading home for the weekend wearing their Khakis. I had mine on! Walking through ATL Airport to change planes wearing the Beret, Boots bloused, Short sleeved Khaki top. I would pass Marines, and you cold hear them say, "Who the hell is that?" The BEST of times!!!

I agree, I miss BDUs.  I'm still a little cherry because I only wore BDUs for a year!  But you could tell a lot about a Soldier by there uniform back then.  I do like the ASUs minus them making tabs pin on.  I think they should have remain sown on because if you went to Ranger School in the winter you could sew your tab on with white tread.  Now there's no way to show your a Winter Ranger!!!!

Do you consider BDU superior to the new OCP ACU?

Happy. While the "Green's" of Class 'A' as there were known as, served their purpose, they just didn't look good. Now the Dress Blues or "ASU" as they are now called are steeped in traditions reaching back to the civil war. I think they look great. Everything stands out and our DA Photos look so much better. The materials are far superior to those of the Green uniform (thanks to Marlow White). Now that doesn't mean that I am apposed to the idea that was being kicked around, that of returning to the old WWII uniforms. Those uniforms would have been a better alternative to the Green Class 'A's. But as it stands, the ASU is here to stay and I am happy with the change.

That patch is worn by all airborne on the cunt cap, not just the 101. In fact, they prolly don't wear it, as I read in the Army Times, the division lost their last airborne unit this year, pathfinders, I think.

I was really hoping they would go with the WW2 era uniforms especially the "Ike Coat"

I heard the SMA is pushing to bring back the Ike jacket as a less dressy version of the dress blues. that would be sharp. I hope it goes through.

Dress Blues are just that, for dress. So now we have field, PT, and a dress uniform. Really? A dress uniform in an office environment? Why didn't we keep khakis for a working uniform? Oh, I forgot, khakis are a Navy uniform (desert on the ocean).

Dress blue uniform vs. the Greens?

As you can see by my retirement photo<<<<<, I still possessed my Green Class A's and wore them proudly....I honestly detested the change, as the "old" Dress Blues were the formal attire I utilized for special events: Dining-Ins, Balls, Spur Dinners, etc. I liked the way the old Blues looked with your service stripes on the sleeves, no shoulder sleeve insignia and with my Stetson and spurs looked so damn good. Just didn't like the bastardized look of the ASUs when they initially adopted them, and then with the "cancelling" of the greyish shirt for normal wear, it took away from normal, every day wear and for formal wear. But as I am retired now, it doesn't matter what I think, I just think we lost a little bit of ourselves when we made the switch, I always advocated for a more militaristic looking uniform similar to what we wore during the WWII-Korean War era Army.

I was SOOO young then but I thought I rocked the Green Class A's well when I was in! :-) When I was in, the Blues were for Dining In's, Special duty like the Old Guard, formal occasions, etc.
Living and working in DC however, I do admire the human form in it's many varieties in the Blues and thank my stars I live in DC everyday! :-)

I never owned blues, but preferred the Greens anyway.
Utilities were verboten off base. If you were seen in them I'm pretty sure you would be keelhauled with out getting to draw a good breath!

I like the Blues better than the Greens, but I would have preferred a uniform more like the old "Ike" uniforms for non-formal wear and keep the Dress Blues and/or Mess Dress for formals. Just my 2 cents.

The one thing that I did like about the greens was wearing the unit patches on the sleeves. Other than that it's like the Army and Air Force were competing to see who could make their dress uniforms uglier.

I do like this vintage look. The problem I have with it is that you'd have to need doubles or triples of everything. You'll need all the bling for 2 jackets and the shirt. Depending on what you've got you could be looking at $120 for a ribbon rack alone.

We modified the Dress Blues into the current ASU uniform.  I always hated that green.  It looks bad next to the ASUs.  I was all for the switch.
