I drill out at Johnstown, and when I first got to my unit no one was there that I knew or felt comfortable with. Johnstown was completely new to me and so I had to fumble through the dark finding things to do. Hopefully this guide will help bring some people up to speed if you are from out of town or need some ideas for things to do.

First off, for that are not aware, Johnstown has a booming veteran community. If you go somewhere in uniform there is a high likelihood that you will be stopped and someone will be thanking you or asking about what you do in the military. Just a fair warning, as other areas are a little more cold shouldered towards the military community.

There are not too many things to do in the Johnstown area. However there are some things to do. And some things to help keep others out of trouble. Whether you recently got stationed at the armed forces recruiting center in the mall or it's your first drill weekend there are a few things to do.

First, if you are of age the most prominent bar/watering hole is the Johnstown inn. Located on 1310 Frankstown Rd, Johnstown, PA 15902. The bar owner supports our community and tolerates shenanigans more so than other bar owners. Don't go in acting ignorant, however it is the place to let your hair down and relax around your friends and colleges. There is most always someone from the military in that bar. Food is always excellent and drink prices are fair. Cheap beer during Pittsburgh sports games.

Second, If you need things (and this part is painfully obvious) there is no px or commissary at Johnstown. The closest from Johnstown is the Ce Kelly Commissary located at 99 Soliders Lane, Moon Township, Pa. Therefore essentials will need to be grabbed from Walmart. To include, undergarments, bottled water, and any medicinal essentials.

Third, The ever important mall. Home to many shopping centers and the wonderful folks at the armed forces recruiting center. There are the typical mall stores. Shops for footwear, shops for books, shops for odds and ends, and even a travel agency. Just about any entertainment needs that can't be filled by option one or two will bring you back to option three.

Fourth, Historical sites. Yes, we all know that the flood happened. How many of you have actually stopped in and taken a look through the museums? Or the eternal flame? How about the light show that happens on the rail bridge every night at 10? The flood zone of Johnstown has quite a bit of historical knowledge wrapped up in it.

Fifth, Games and where to play them. There is a bowling ally located at 1140 Frances Street Johnstown, PA 15904. Good lanes and great way to blow off steam. The mall hosts "glow putt" a mini putt range with neon lighting. There is also a dedicated billiards room at 1449 Scalp Ave, Johnstown, PA 15904. Rates are fair. Movie theater is located at 1910 Minno Dr, Johnstown, PA 15905. Can't say that I've ever been there, but if you've got something that your just burning to see, this would be the place to go.

Sixth, Guns, guns, and more guns! If your a gun nut, looking to start your collection, getting that replacement part, piecing together your own custom ar, or maybe looking for your concealed piece Sporting Goods Discounters is the place to go. Don't scoff at the name, the expertise of the staff will level you. They are extremely friendly. I don't know is met with knowledge and tutelage, not scorn and ridicule. Wall to wall of all different kinds of make, model, and caliber. Tough to not spend money while in that store.

Anyway, Figured this would get the ball rolling on what to do and were to do it. Johnstown may not have the best wether; but they do have very warmhearted individuals.
