During Presidential Election Cycles, have we as a nation become more emotional and less logical in our thinking towards picking a candidate?

I think we go with who can be nastier and come out cleaner in the. The politics are more emotionally charged as they seem to center on the divisions between culture, race, religion, and party. I believe we were discussing earlier the point about issues- what ever happened to them? When things get a little to far one way or the other- race card- racists- doesn't care about middle class- etc. Then the emotion comes in- and informed or mis-informed the seed is planted. Low info voters won't go find or know how to find the correct answers.

The 2008 and 2012 elections prove the former. The 2016 election establishes unheard of lows in rational thought processes connected with the primaries and general campaigns.

I'm perfectly logical. Everyone else is being emotional. Unless of course if they've reached the same conclusion as me, then they too are logical and not given to emotion.

I blame it on the party primaries and state laws subverting the constitutional method of selecting the president through the electoral college process. The founders intended for us to ONLY vote for unbound electors in November to represent us in the electoral college process to select the best president based on values and policy not personality and talking points. The party primaries have subverted this by making their primary candidates pre approved in November before the constitutional process even begins.

Human decision making is neither wholly logical or emotional. I believe that the choice of for whom we will cast our ballots is still more logical. However, we can become emotional when we fear that our fellow citizens are using a rational far removed from our own. No election in recent times has demonstrated this more than the current one. We have two vastly unpopular, unsuited candidates and it's easy to disagree over which negative you fear the most.
