I have a chance to PCS to my Units sister unit located at Fort Richardson, With this PCS i move into a non Deployable slot, this gives me three more years to work on and finish a double bachelors degree, plus my unit if offering to send me to manufacturer training that will only enhance my job when I retire. have been in the army 4 years and have yet to deploy. I am Currently a SGT , and i am not sure what i should do , Any real advice on what will be better for me and my career , a deployment or an education ? ( I am currently standing on 200 college credit hours so i do not need the points )

SGT Henson,

If your only reason for deploying would be to further your career, then I think you should go ahead and move to that non-deployable unit. Deploying is a privilege. There aren't many deployment opportunities left, so the remaining slots should go to those who want to deploy for the right reasons.

Take a deployment if you can get it, because they're going away quickly. Colleges don't.

Personally, with over 200 college credit hours you already obtained an education. A deployment would reflect as a good experience, not generally needed but people tend to give more respect and faith in a service member that has deployed. You can always finish up your education afterwards, but in the midst of us wrapping things up overseas, deployments will be hard to come by in the future or until the next conflict.
