I’m a PV2 at my first unit. I’ve been in for 9 months and definitely want to go to college while I’m in. I’d like to go officer and I don’t know which way to go. Either green to gold or to get out and re-enlist as an officer. My asvab scores are decent (127 GT and all other scores range from 127-129) I’m pretty squared away and it almost sticks out from my peers. I don’t know if that’s from being out of IET for a short period of time or what. Any information would be great, thanks!

I'd wait a little longer before taking that plunge, but the choice is yours.

I don't know anything at all about how that transition works but I do know that officers who know both sides of the coin seem to get more respect and confidence in their abilities from the enlisted under them. I'd complete my enlistment before upgrading.

What I would suggest if you want to do it this path is to look into the Simultaneous Membership Program. I am currently working on becoming an SMP cadet. The trade off of this path is you have to go Reserves, so if that doesn't interest you then you can write it off. If you are Active, I don't see any problems with trying for Green to Gold; however I'll give you the advice my commander has given me as I try and go SMP. It is worth it to spend some time on the enlisted side and try and possibly go through a deployment. If you go through a deployment you will learn what it's like to be under leadership and that will help you figure out how you want to lead. It can also help you make connections to those you lead and act as a way to build up your credibility by having a deployment already under your belt by the time you are commissioned and at your first unit as an officer.
Good luck out there, and I hope this turns out well for you.

Military is the greatest job in the world, you have a lot to offer, personally I love the enlisted men/women. Your scores are very high!u have the qualities of an officer. Go for it. GOD BLESS YOU

Look kid, there is not "enlistment" to be an Officer. You are direct commissioned due to special training/skills, or you go the ROTC route and hope to get commissioned, or you apply/accepted and pass the OCS course. Which if you failed you will be returned to unit at your enlisted rank,.

Green to gold needs a minimum of 2 years active. Find more info on a hip pocket scholarship that's more along your Avenue. If you get out and join ROTC then you need to compete for a commission with other students.
