Looked at my LES. According to my current records, apparently my ETS date is 331031. I mean it could be right.... but I'm pretty sure there are not 33 days in the month of October, and I most definitely did not sign until 2031. I've never even heard of a 19.5 year contract.

Who would be the best person to get in contact with to fix this super-flub of a typo?

Also a thought. It also a coincidence that its almost exactly 20 years from now? Did you recently reenlist? Your contract may have been entered as INDEF.

Why are you challenging me on retention information...it's what I do for a living?

"Reenlistment Options are only available, if otherwise qualified, to those Soldiers at the rank of Specialist (SPC) or above, who have a contractual FY14 ETS or FY15 ETS date."

Ok so which one is it then? First you say they can't, they you say they can, then you say they can't?
The crazy thing is I was just at a ceremony for a PFC 2 months ago. That's so crazy. I better get ahold of our career counselor and let him know he messed up.

And system processes is what I do for a living. Which again is why nothing you said about the RETAIN system makes sense in reference to his situation.

I just initially enlisted for the first time on Feb 06, 2012. And the ETS date wasn't always listed as that, so something changed in the system. Not sure why it changed to 20 years though.

The format is year/mon/day. I wouldn't be too worried about it. What would be interesting is what it says down there for you leave days. Your ETS balance should almost be 600 days worth. If not then don't sweat it.

"Don't sweat it"? This is the most RIDICULOUS guidance coming from an NCO to a junior Soldier.
And we wonder what's wrong with our Army...our NCO Corps gives out this kind of guidance. "Don't sweat it"? (So frustrating!)

OMG. Calm down. The point Im making that you missed is that if its not affecting his leave days then its not affecting anything else. It's clearly a clerical error. Im just saying its not anything to be running to finance about tomorrow. His supervisor should be checking his LES anyway.

Don't like being called out for giving ridiculous information?
Again, this lackadaisical, "Don't worry about it" attitude is not helping anyone. Just because it doesn't effect a leave balance, doesn't mean it doesn't effect anything else.
Let's say this PFCs ETS is currently actually 30 September 2015...do you think this error could effect anything?

SSG Burns,
You have no idea how personnel systems work and nothing changes your "Don't worry about it" attitude.
If there is an error in one of your Soldiers' records, you get them fixed. PERIOD.
Also, 'assuming' what PFC Rawlins was asking is irresponsible. His question was pretty specific..."Who would be the best person to get in contact with to fix this super-flub of a typo?"

Let me just use what you said in your answer. Who can only enter ETS dates? Career counselors right? Then you proceed to say its impossible to enter that date for a PFC. So tell me then how its possible? Tell me what it is I don't understand because you just contradicted yourself.
Maybe a career counselor can't enter it but that doesn't mean the RETAIN program can't make an error.
I didn't say don't worry about it, I said don't sweat it meaning don't lose any sleep over it over the weekend. LES's have come out, the pay day is here. It's not an emergency. Don't sweat it.
The only one who put out some information that is utterly false is you stating that a PFC can't reenlist, which they obviously can.

Never said PFCs "can't", they are simply not authorized. (There are exemptions to just about anything in the military)
Career Counselors do not input initial entry ETS dates, BUT they are the ONLY ones that can correct them. Simply point your Soldiers (or the Soldiers you engage) with accurate and relevant information.
You can play semantic games if you'd like, but "Don't worry about it" and "Don't sweat it" (which was in my initial response) are synonymous.
No further responses are required.

For you to make a statement implying what I said is what is wrong with todays army is ridiculous. You are talking about semantics after you make a comment like "I didn't say he can't I said he's not authorized". Ok. Your response was to me asking if he just reenlisted. So you were implying that that was not possible. And you'd be wrong. You didn't even let him answer the question and then you want to talk about assuming things.
The information I gave him was accurate. Don't sweat it is good advice for the time being for all the reasons I said above. Whether his eta is in 2015 as you suggest or 2031 nothing is going to change this pay period. So don't sweat it.
Before you go off the handle with derogatory comments about someones leadership, make sure you understand the context.
You've walked back now both of your initial comments.
