Ever been scared that perfect job is not going to be available when you make your move?

I would bet that very few of us found the perfect job right out of the chute. You take the best job that is offered then work towards what may resemble the perfect job. Or do as I did support yourself with it until you find something more acceptable.

If you take a closer look, there's a bunch of "open continuous" that essentially gets drawn on whenever the need arises. Beyond that, the jobs come and go but with a closing date, you know there will be a selection process shortly thereafter.. If you go for perfection, then you'll likely restrict yourself to a few plums vs. thinking about the long game. That is getting into a great organization and moving up from there. "Great" is in the eye of the beholder and every organization has its warts. On the Fed side, morale is typically a problem because the Agencies are getting beat up all the time with unfunded mandates and evermore screaming clients. There are some jobs where you can isolate yourself from most of the churn such as wildlife management, forester, or anything that gets you outside most of the time. Regardless, given your Military upbringing, whatever expectations and assumptions you have will need to be adjusted.
