Yeah, I know, you've all told me that I'm never going to get into any branch of the military with only one kidney. The Army has already disqualified me and now I'm in the middle of trying to enlist in the Air Force. People keep telling me that I have no chance of joining, but I'm making more progress than you've all expected. My recruiter has my medical papers and he knows all about my one kidney. And yet, he didn't turn me down and give me an automatic disqualification. He said I can go take the ASVAB, which I took today and scored a 94 on, and then he said that he'll send my scores down to be looked at so that I can be considered for MEPS.

So....when does this so-called "automatic disqualification" show up, because I ain't seeing it. I took the ASVAB, scored high on it, and now I'm being considered for MEPS. And what happens when my recruiter says I'm in the clear for MEPS? What happens when I pass the physical and MEPS lets me swear in? What happens when they notice that my one kidney doesn't impede me in any way? Chances are you all will still be saying "You're never gonna get in! You're disqualified!"

I honestly just typed this up because I like that I'm proving you guys wrong so far. I've made it farther than any of you have anticipated and I'm just the type of guy who likes to rub things in.

After reading your post and the reply’s of my brother military members, I am reminded of the comment made by my favorite 1st Sgt. “Well, I’m no proctologist, but I know an a$$hole when I see one”. In regards to you, truer words were never spoken.

Anyone know if this piece of shit can be kicked out? WTF is he doing here anyways? Listen up POS. Your goddamn recruiter is using you for numbers. He needs a certain amount of swingin dicks to push through and that's what's happening to you. It doesn't matter if you pass or fail to him. What matters is that he used you for a potential service member. Too fucking bad you won't make it in because now I won't be able to teach you the proper technique to use in hand to hand combat. Fucking, pogue.

Having been assigned to the Los Angles Meps in the late '80's, to answer your question it can be found in AR 40-501 Chap. 2-15:
f. Kidney. (1) Current absence of one kidney, congenital (753.0) or acquired (V45.73) does not meet the standard. (2) Current pyelonephritis (chronic or recurrent) (590.0) or any other unspecified infections of the kidney (590.9) does not meet the standard. (3) Current or history of polycystic kidney (753.1) does not meet the standard. (4) Current or history of horseshoe kidney (753.3) does not meet the standard. (5) Current or history of hydronephrosis (591) does not meet the standard. (6) Current or history of acute (580) or chronic (582) nephritis of any type does not meet the standard. g. Current or history of proteinuria (791.0) (greater than 200 milligrams (mg)/24 hours; or a protein to creatinine ratio greater than 0.2 in a random urine sample, if greater than 48 hours after strenuous activity) does not meet the standard, unless consultation determines the condition to be benign orthostatic proteinuria.

Military personnel are not a me team. There is no I in team. If you do manage to get into the service remember that you are not alone or a team of one. You will be a member of the military.

What will happen is that once you do your MEPS physical, they will send the paperwork to the Air Guard Bureau in Washington, DC and they will disqualify you there. The recruiter actually has no say in the matter, they simply have to follow procedure. Make sure you have the best paperwork you can get since all you will be is a case on paper to the person who reviews it. Once it is stamped "DISQUALIFIED" the recruiter will let you know. I used to work physical exams for the Air National Guard full time, so I do have a clue. But I have been retired for 4 years and things change. Good luck!!!

You know he won't qualify. No one gets in with one kidney.

I am aware of that, but sometimes people have to have it actually stamped and this kid sounds like one of those people.

You’re going to get caught at MEPS after the UA(urinalysis) if you don’t then you’ll most likely have issues during BCT or AIT(depending on your MOS) and then be chaptered out medically

It is very disrespectful to be a guy who comes into our playground, asks for advice, gets it from people who've been around serving for years, and then spit on our faces, rubbing things in that as a matter of fact are not a reality just yet, or won't be at all, your attitude is that of a fucking spoil little kid that whenever mommy said no, went to see daddy and he'll say yes, and came back to tell mommy that daddy said yes, just to rub things in your mommy's face, if you make it in Madison Holloway, be on the lookout, our community is very small, and your name might pop back up when you less expect...
