This video was sent to us by a lady out of the Reno, Nevada area. This guy was walking around pretending he was a Marine. When asked for his name he responded that, "He was on High Alert, and couldn't give that out."
He then said he was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines, which have been deactivated sine 1970. The Marines do have a 26th MEU(Marine Expeditionary Unit), but it doesn't have a 3rd Battalion.
He was trying to get a discount on or a free venue for his wedding using the claims.

You need to watch out for those “Lerts”
This woman was totally out of line and needs to learn the law on stolen valorr! As a 10 year honorably discharges Navy Damage Controlman who spent my share of time in the Persian Gulf pre 911 it angers me to see someone who from the looks and sounds of him oils possibly be suffering from mental illness. There were no markings on his BDU’s so nothing illegal about that yet she rips into him not knowing anything about this man. Even if he was trying to get a discount that’s not illegal and it’s on the business to verify his service. Who was she to say anything to him. How do we know her story was real yet there it is up on you tube. These people who are harassing people on the street who many times are actual vets need to revisit their services core values. They also need to read the stolen valor act of 2013. Someone wearing a military uniform or saying they served is not stolen valor. Yeah there are people out there pretending to be something there not and they stick out like a sore thumb but who are they really hurting? Maybe they just didn’t have the nerve to serve or couldn’t or thery are battling mental illness. Leave thieve people alone continue to take care of those who can’t take care of themselves, stop making an ass out of yourself and carry on smartly! If they are are trying to pass of any of the 13 valor medals for some kind of monetary gain alert the authorities and don’t make a scene it is not job and you have no idea what kind of danger you could be putting yourself or others in because you wanted to be some kind of stolen valor hero! That is the only thing someone can be arrested for. As far as the women in the article she needs to mind her own business and stop embarrassing the service members she cares about. Sorry for the long post but it needed to be said. We all raised our right hand and swore to defend the constitution. You don’t get to choose what laws to defend and by harassing these citizens you are stomping on their 1st amendment right of freedom of speech! I thank all of you for your service!

I am against anyone pretending to be a member of our armed services for any reason. Well, acting professionally is okay. I seem to remember reading a few years ago, that some judge ruled that "stolen valor" by someone like this guy is not against the law or illegal. Is that still in effect or has it been changed?

I could have definitely done without her choice of bad language. Whether or not the guy has psychological issues or is in fact stolen valor, there are better ways to handle the situation. I will agree at times, certain people do need to be called out, but bad language gives all of us a bad name or leaves us in a bad light as veterans.

I can’t get with this at all. The fact she can’t tell he has a disorder of some kind, just makes her come off as an ass. #commonsense

The guy is obviously in crisis the woman however is obnoxious respectfully ask a few questions then depending on the situation recommend they stop wearing the uniform or call authorities if they committed a crime or gained from the stolen valor shouting obscenities and ranting and raving do not help and may end up causing a bigger issue

I would have called him out also. This is so wrong and it is because of people like him that makes it so hard for the rest of us.

He's mentally ill. We have to look the other way sometimes for people who will never be able to serve and are blatantly obviously mentally ill. Unless he's collecting money or getting freebies I think he's harmless. No one in their right mind can think he is a Marine. I may be wrong and I am for punishing all stolen valour suspects but in a way I feel sorry for the mentally ill.

This continues to be an issue. Some people are so enthusiastic about calling someone out and shaming them publicly that they fail to realize that ( a ) if he's just wearing the uniform and not getting benefits _from the government_, it's NOT Stolen Valor, and ( b ) someone clearly has an issue.
Why are we so ready to pounce and get a video out there, that we fail to see someone who's in need?
