You mean submarines use to be strictly male? How do you tell the difference between male and female, sail, bow planes, prop???

Oh come on. You're intelligent enough to know what I meant....I think. -Where females weren't present before until now, exudes a certain pre-conception on how life aboard submarines will be going forward. It may be fine. But you have to admit there is room for major missteps.

If you don't care enough about your question to take the time to phrase it properly....I'm gonna take a humorous shot at it. If you read that headline in your newspaper, wouldn't you question it?

Starship Troopers.... ;o)

Seriously though, I am not necessarily opposed to this, however, there needs to be some serious boundries set when it comes to fraternization.

I'm wondering (aloud) if this will lead to transgender submarines. Wouldn't that be the next logical "social experiment" step? And frat boundaries are based on the "current" system are they not. I'm also wondering if the boundaries will need to be expelled altogether in favor of a new set.

I think you guys are misinterpreting the article based on the misleading title. This is what *I* intuit from the article (YMMV): the Navy has incorporated female officers onto submarines, thereby integrating submarine crews. Now that they've tested the waters with female officers [speculation: probably because a female officer is less likely to be messed with than female enlisted], they're going to start integrating female enlisted sailors onto these same submarines, with already-serving female submarine officers being assigned to those female enlisted.

IE, assigning a female sailor to a female officer on an integrated crew.
