I'm a Naval Reservists currently attending college. I've done about 8 months of active duty time, but that was all for training so I'm not eligible for the Post 9/11GI Bill or Tuition Assistance.

My recruiter mentioned a program where a monthly stipend is provided to cover tuition costs, and I've heard word of a few people in my reserve unit who are receiving said stipend (Roughly $350 a month). I've tried searching online for the program, but haven't had any luck.

Could someone point me in the right direction? I've covered most of my tuition with scholarships, grants, and student loans, but I'm still a bit short and need to pay roughly $1200 more before I can register for courses for the next semester.

I do not know about the Navy, but the Army has a Reserve Tuition Assistance program called GoArmyEd. Perhaps the Navy has a similar program. I am currently going to college online and find the payments between the GI Bill and GAE to be more than enough to cover the costs but I am also eligible for the Pell Grant. Talk to your finance department at your school about such programs. Your military advisor at your college should also know of any Mavy TA programs that exist as well as most of them require the school to report classes and grades.

Hn Mears,

Here is BUMEDINST 1510.24 http://www.med.navy.mil/directives/ExternalDirectives/1510.24.pdf

According to the above instruction, tuition is the member's responsibility. Your best resource for this program is your Navy Councilor (NC). Call your NOSC and set up an appointment with your NC so you can start on a package.
