Doing my first PCS move from Ft.Campbell, KY to Ft. Irwin CA. I'm trying to figure out if i should have the army move us, or do it myself. If I use the army to move, what will to my house hold goods if they make it to the base before i do? because my lease is up before my report date, so it will have to be picked up early. any information on moving would be greatly welcomed.

I am making my first PCS move to Ft. Rucker, Alabama in August. I am planning on renting either an apartment or a house off of the base. I would appreciate some advice about the surrounding cities and any suggestions on where to live. Also some general advice on making a PCS move would be nice. Thanks.

Let the Army move you they will take care of your stuff. When packers come go over everything and document any damage and you will be paid to replace or repair. Going to Ft Irwin is a hard draw for duty assignment if you don't get base housing you will have to live in Barstow and that is more than fifty miles one way. So let the Army move your goods they will store them and make arrangements to delivery after you find a place to live. Good luck and have a safe move. I was stationed at Ft Irwin for two years I enjoyed my time there.
