For a prior-service who is enlisting, what comes first, a grade determination or MOS selection?

Go to MEPs, phys, then do grade determimation, then go back to MEPs, get job, enlist. In that order, I am working 2 prior service as we speak.

You won't find out at MEPS, in order to do a grade determination, a full physical has to be submitted. Business rules are only a guide. E4 most likely you will get your job, or a change is you want. E5, it's going to be whatever is open the day you sit in the chair with the counselors at MEPS the second time. Business rules will give you general guidance, but the bottom line of the business rules says,"needs of the Army", and that's usually where everything falls

So if I got out as an E5 I can choose to re enlist as an E4 if I don't ask for a grade determination? Or, do I have to do a grade determination no matter what?

Grade determination. MOS selection won't be until after the MEPS physical and you meet the Guidance Counselor. You will have to be mentally, morally, and medically qualified before enlistment or re-enlistment. Best of luck!
