As stated below check the mic, look inside the connector to see if the mic has four pins or five. You would want to use the one that have five pins. If you are using an amp make sure the antenna connections are clear and that is properly seated. Run a self test on the radio to see if you get any fail codes

SGM (Join to see) - IF you're referring to the comsec being cleared it should be mentioned this radio does not have comsec nor will it contain comsec for this situation. It's the correct handmic. I keep all my mics separted and in their own respective storage spots according to use. I have other radios to test with however it's difficult to test it when it is unable to transmit or receive.

Reading the comments this moght be a programming or software issue and needs to be evac to you support battalion. If the radio was configured for data only transmission then it sometimes will give you the off in the display stating voice communication if off so that only data can be sent. Look in the back of the TMs for the troubleshooting flow charts to get some more ideas and changes to make in the configuration menu to rectify the issue

SFC (Join to see) - Unfortunately I am in the support battalion. I am a 25U. So I don't have anyone else to take this to. This radio is supposed to be configured for voice transmission only no data should be needed. I've checked all it's configurations and at this point I feel it safe to assume it is an internal card issue, SSG.

There is a shop called an ELM shop that does internal repairs at the BSB that it will go too for higher level repairs. They have the equipment to diagnosis it further. Ususally they are colocated with the ones that repair the NVG and small arms.

Not sure if this will fully answer your question, but I believe I can provide some insight on why your display is reading "off". This is because the data mode of your radio has been set to the "off" setting. This can be referenced in the bottom two cells of the table on page 5-32 of TM11-5820-890-10-8. I hope this answer is helpful, and that you are not experiencing any further issues.

I changed that setting but it's still displaying OFF when I key it. I have presumed it has something to do with a faulty card at this point. Thank you for that information though sergeant.

+1 Consult the TM, worst case scenario you get more familiar with the radio and TMs almost always teach you something you didnt already know about a particular radio. Don't be afraid to browse beyond the -10 level TM either. C&E shop (94E?) Should also be able to provide valuable insight into troubleshooting should you pick their brains.

Check the DATA Mode. I believe that you are seeing that the Data rate is set to off. (Set the FN switch to LD and press the 4(DATA) key to scroll through the data options.)

That said, you should not see the data setting by pressing the PTT, so the indication is, I think, what you have guessed, an internal card fault. It would be interesting to see if you set the data rate to something else if that becomes the display message when you key.

(And good for you knowing that we 25Us are not authorized to open the case.)

Any other symptoms? Noise in the handset when you key, lack of side-tone?
