For any Navy Corpsmen out there, especially any FMSTs, any advice or suggestions you could give to give to a new recruit?

Aleczander Brune Listen closely and observe those individuals that have knowledge that you need. Navy Corpsman (Doc) are highly respected by the Marines that they are assigned to. Become a great "Doc" to earn the respect and trust of the Marine unit that you are assigned to. Good luck.

Amen Sgt. You have to be able to care for your Marines if you expect their respect. They are willing to give their lives for you. If they're willing to die for you if they get wounded, you may have to use your own body to shield theirs. Doesn't sound like your cup of tea, I don't recommend you becoming a corpsman

Don't do anything until you're told to. Pay attention during training. take good notes. Study them well. as much as you probably don't want to, volunteer for everything you think you can handle. It's the only way to make it in today's Navy. Wear your uniform properly and with pride. Dress every day like there's a Personnel Inspection. If you look squared away, you'll act squared away and your superiors will take note. You're going to take the Oath of a Hospital Corpsman. Take it seriously. If you have no desire to help the sick, get re-classified to another rate.

If you're attached to a grunt unit prepare to run 3 to 6 miles every morning and evening, because the Marines love to run.

You make it sound like 6 miles before breakfast isn't FUN. It's torture if you're not in shape. If you aren't you soon will be. After 6 years out of the green machine I got back in shape. from May to the end of the year I lost 60 lbs. and born again hard. Wasn't fun, but got it done.
